Video: SFWMD Responding to Rainfall from Hurricane Irma
West Palm Beach, FL - The South Florida Water Management District is responding to heavy rainfall across its 16-county region from Hurricane Irma to maximize flood protection for South Florida's 8.1 million residents.
SFWMD meteorologists have forecast between 5.5 and 6 inches of rain District-wide on Sunday, Sept. 10. The single-day record is 5.35 inches from Tropical Storm Mitch in November 1998.
SFWMD Chief Engineer John Mitnik provided a video update Sunday morning to detail how water managers are adjusting the regional flood control system to move stormwater runoff and storm surge water as quickly and safely as possible.
