WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Executive Director Drew Bartlett provided an update on Hurricane Dorian at 4:15 p.m. today. Director Bartlett partially activated the District's Emergency Operation Center (EOC) today and will fully activate the EOC starting tomorrow at 8 a.m. Impacts from Hurricane Dorian are expected in Broward, Martin, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Polk and St. Lucie counties in less than 48 hours.
The South Florida regional flood protection system is fully prepared to handle heavy rainfall. With the public making final storm preparations, residents in South Florida can ensure proper neighborhood drainage by securing all loose items near canals and clearing local ditches and drains of debris. SFWMD-managed lands and navigation locks remain closed in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian.
