The South Florida Water Management District is highlighting the many ways you can enjoy our public lands this summer, and all year long.
DID YOU KNOW: The District is the steward of more than 1 million acres of public lands throughout our 16-county region.
EXPLORE THE GREAT OUTDOORS: Whether you’re an avid adventurer or you just want to enjoy the summer sunshine, the District’s public lands offer something for everyone.
ADVENTURE STARTS HERE: The District has taken great strides to enhance and expand recreational access to District-managed properties. Activities at each location are compatible with natural resources protection and intended land use priorities.
ENJOY THE SUMMER SEASON: The Summer Solstice is Sunday, June 21, marking the official start of the summer season and the longest day of the year in terms of sunlight. From camping to bird-watching to hiking and more, the long summer days offer plenty of sunshine to enjoy South Florida’s natural beauty.
ACTIVITIES FOR EVERYONE: Whether you are planning a weekend staycation or a quick afternoon retreat, District-managed lands provide activities for all ages and skill levels. Activities include:
⛺ Camping: The District has campgrounds throughout the region that accommodate tents, RVs, groups, equestrians and more. Each campsite offers unique views of South Florida's diverse ecosystem.
🎣 Hunting and Fishing: District lands provide some of the best hunting and fishing opportunities in South Florida. Licenses from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) can be obtained by visiting this webpage.
🥾 Hiking: District lands offer many miles of hiking trails for you to explore. Enjoy the longest days of the year and reconnect with nature along picturesque trails.
🛶 Canoeing/Kayaking: Grab a paddle and explore South Florida’s natural areas by water. District lands offer many opportunities for canoeing and kayaking.
🐊 Wildlife Viewing: Alligators, birds, deer, and turtles are just some of the native wildlife you may see while visiting the District’s public lands.
🔭 Stargazing: The dark skies over the District’s public lands offer some of the best opportunities to see the stars far, far away from the city lights.
📸 Photography: In recognition of Nature Photography Day, grab a camera and capture the picturesque views as the sun sets on the horizon. The lighting can lead to some stunning shots.
