Together with our local, state and federal partners, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) continues to make significant progress on key projects that are improving the quantity, quality, timing and distribution of water within the Greater Everglades Ecosystem.
Did you know the SFWMD works on some of the largest and most complex water quality and ecosystem restoration projects in the world?
In recognition of World Water Day, we are celebrating the historic momentum and record-breaking progress that continues to be made to improve water quality and the ecological health of South Florida’s natural resources, while ensuring an adequate water supply for our communities.
More than 50 Everglades projects have been completed, broken ground or hit a major milestone since January of 2019. These projects are making a real difference to protect South Florida’s precious water resources and restore America’s Everglades.
Some major milestones include:
- Breaking ground on the EAA Reservoir.
- Breaking ground on the CEPP New Water Seepage Barrier Wall Project.
- Breaking ground on the Taylor Slough Flow Improvement Project within Everglades National Park.
- Breaking ground on the Indian River Lagoon-South C-23/C-24 Stormwater Treatment Area.
- Completing the Kissimmee River Restoration Project.
