Did you know the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is the steward of more than 1 million acres of public land where you can relax, unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of South Florida?
In celebration of National Relaxation Day, we are highlighting the many recreational opportunities that are available to you on SFWMD lands. Whether you are looking for a scenic trail, a picturesque picnic spot, or you simply want to lounge under the shade of a tree, SFWMD lands provide the perfect place for you to relax and unwind.
Here are some ways you can take a break from your daily routine and bask in the beauty of the great outdoors:
- Camping: SFWMD has campgrounds throughout the region that accommodate tents, RVs, groups, equestrians and more. Each campsite offers unique views of South Florida's diverse ecosystem.
- Stargazing: The dark skies over SFWMD’s public lands offer some of the best opportunities to see the stars far, far away from the city lights.
- Hiking: SFWMD lands offer many miles of hiking trails for you to explore. Reconnect with nature along picturesque trails.
- Canoeing/Kayaking: Grab a paddle and explore South Florida’s natural areas by water. SFWMD lands offer many opportunities for canoeing and kayaking.
- Wildlife Viewing: Alligators, birds, deer, and turtles are just some of the native wildlife you may see while visiting SFWMD’s public lands. Remember to keep a safe distance from all wildlife.
